Maple Grove Raceway Joins NHRA Driver Tommy Johnson, Jr. and Make-A-Wish
MOHNTON, Pa. - Maple Grove Raceway is teaming up with Tommy Johnson, Jr., NHRA driver of the Don Schumacher Racing Make-A-Wish Dodge Funny Car to make local children’s dreams come true. Every year the organization raises money to grant the wishes of children diagnosed with a life threatening medical condition. A wish is granted every 34 minutes. However, it takes $10,000 in order to grant just one wish. Literally a wish can be a game changer in a child’s life.

This year between August 16th, 2017 and September 1st, 2017, Maple Grove Raceway will donate ten dollars from every adult ticket sold to the Dodge NHRA Nationals, which will be held September 21-24, 2017 to Make-A-Wish. All dollars raised during this promotion go to the Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Over the years Maple Grove Raceway has donated thousands of dollars annually to the Make-A-Wish program through this promotion. Being a partner in the Make-A-Wish program is just one small way Maple Grove Raceway is giving back to the local community it serves. Last year alone, Maple Grove Raceway raised $10,000 for Make-A-Wish during this promotion. With support from fans and the local media, Maple Grove Raceway is striving to exceed last year’s goal by a few thousand dollars.

TruStart, Re-Entries Come to Maple Grove Raceway

Listen up, Maple Grove racers! Here's an announcement from The Grove: "TRUSTART has been added to our Compulink timing system and will be utilized at all ET bracket events for the 2017 season. The Summit Racing ET Bracket Finals, held at Numidia Raceway September 14 – 16 will have the system in place. Trustart calculates a true red light between two cars and eliminates the first red light rule that has been in effect since the inception of the computerized system. The red light is calculated after the quicker dialed car leaves the starting line and the foul light is displayed in the proper lane."

Regarding re-entries: "We have been discussing buybacks/re-entries at our Money Trail meetings as far back as 2007. In the past, we’ve all spent too much time at the meetings discussing this issue. The results of those past meetings have always resulted in split votes and leaving at least 50% of the competitors unhappy with the voting results.

Over the winter months our management team discussed the re-entry / buyback issue and has elected to take this discussion out of our meeting for 2017. For 2017 Maple Grove officials have adopted a new Re-entry format with the outline of the program listed below that will be in effect at all 2017 Sunoco Race Fuels ET Series events:

• Re-Entries will be offered in Street, Pro and Super. No re-entries will be permitted in any class that starts round one of eliminations on a qualified ladder.
• Re-Entry fees will be based on the equivalent of class round money: $60 Super, $40 Pro, $30 Street.
• Re-Entries will run separate until down to (1) one remaining or total amount of cars in main event is (8) eight cars or less.
• In the case of an uneven amount of re-entries a bye run will be pulled using best reaction time from the previous round.
• Re-Entries will run their first round between first and second round of the main event.
• Re-Entries will be called to the lanes prior to each round of main event.
• Lane assignments for re-entries will be Street Lane 2, Pro Lane 7 Super Lane 8. Competitors will flip a coin for lane choice.
• Re-entries will not receive any Sunoco Race Fuel ET Series points.
• Re-entries must win two rounds to receive round money.
• In the case of poor weather or other conditions, track officials have the right to cancel the re-entry program for the day."

Using POR-15 Aluminum Spray Paint On My Orange and Rusty Cast Iron Water Pump
When I was attending the Performance Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis in December 2016 (see the coverage HERE), one of the companies I saw was POR-15. I've used their black brush-on paint before in the Dragtime Dodge, but what caught my eye at their booth was their line of spray paints. They really looked amazing.

Fast forward a couple of months to me swapping engines in the Dodge. The motor I was taking out was orange and had an orange water pump. The new motor is blue, and I couldn't find the water pump I had for it. The only option was to use the water pump from the old motor. That's when I thought of POR-15's High Temp enamel in aluminum color.

Senate Joins House in Support of RPM Act of 2017
Washington, D.C. (January 24, 2017) – Today, the U.S. Senate joined the House of Representatives in reintroducing the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2017 (RPM Act). The bipartisan bill (S.203), introduced by Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), protects Americans’ right to modify street cars and motorcycles into dedicated race vehicles and industry’s right to sell the parts that enable racers to compete.

The RPM Act is cosponsored by 14 members of the U.S. Senate. The bill ensures that transforming motor vehicles into racecars used exclusively in competition does not violate the Clean Air Act.

“SEMA extends its thanks to Senator Burr and the other cosponsors, and looks forward to working with Congress and the Trump administration to enact the RPM Act into law this year,” said SEMA President & CEO Chris Kersting. “We call on the entire enthusiast community to again reach out to their federal lawmakers to request support for the bill. The RPM Act is the only solution that will ensure that this time-honored tradition and livelihood for millions of Americans will be preserved for generations to come.”

To write a letter to your members of Congress, visit www.sema.org/rpm.

Rockingham Dragway To Host 2017 NHRA Summit ET Finals
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Rockingham Dragway has a busy Fall schedule in 2017, with the Super Chevy Show, the NHRA Lucas Oil Series, the Jim McClure All-Harley Nitro Nationals, the Street Outlaws, ManCup, IDBL World Finals and the SRI Performance Fall Civil Wars. Now owner Steve Earwood has announced that the track has been named the new home of the NHRA’s Summit Racing ET Finals.

The Southeast Division ET Finals will be contested at The Rock Oct. 5-8, 2017, with racers from 19 tracks in seven states and Puerto Rico eligible to participate. The series has been contested nationally, in seven separate divisions, for the last 41 years. The Southeast Summit ET Finals most recently was contested at Atlanta Dragway.

“Its tradition and history made Rockingham Dragway a perfect site for this prestigious event,” said Rich Schaefer, NHRA Southeast Division Director. “Under Steve’s ownership, the track always has catered to the grassroots racer and his crew does a great job of track prep and logistics.”

The decision to move the Summit ET Finals to The Rock came during the annual NHRA Track Operators Meetings last week at Jekyll Island in Georgia.

“It’s great for our track, for Richmond County and for all our neighbors because it attracts racers, sponsors and spectators from across the Southeast,” Earwood said of the ET Finals. “We’re looking forward to showing them everything our area has to offer.”
