Dragway - Atco, NJ
- The Mid Atlantic .90 Association concluded
Race # 5 & 6 of its 2015 season at Atco Dragway
over the weekend of July 25-26, 2015. On Saturday, Nick
Pierson (Super Comp), Jerry Pierce
(Super Gas) and Bernie Staub (Super Street,
pictured above) claimed victory and on Sunday Ash
Senft (Super Comp), Walter Olt
(Super Gas) and Keith Mayers (Super Street)
were victorious at day's end.
On
Saturday Super Street veteran Bernie Staub and Rookie
of the Year candidate 17 year old Nick Pierson added their
names to the long list of first-time winners in the series.
Staub, out of Dover, Pa drove his 1978 Arrow to victory
over another first time finalist Dom Burgese and his 1968
Camaro. In the final, Staub nailed the tree with a .007
reaction time to Burgese's .018 and parlayed that into
a hole-shot victory as Burgese was quicker on the other
end but, couldn't make up the starting line difference
(10.930 to 10.922). Pierson, who had already claimed victory
at the LODRS event at Maple Grove earlier in the season
added a MASCA trophy to his collection with a victory
over Frank Genovesi. Genovesi pushed the tree just a little
too far which resulted in a -.001 red-light and an automatic
victory for the runner out of Denville, NJ. Rounding out
the winners on Saturday was Albany, NY runner Jerry Pierce
and his 97 Cutlass in Super Gas. Pierce, took down a red-lighting
John Martin in the finals for the automatic victory.
Sunday
produced another hot and sticky day for the .90 runners
for Race # 6 of the series. Local runner and Atco Regular
Walter Olt took his "Team Advantage" Corvette
to victory over points leader Earl Nichols Jr. after a
lengthy staging duel. Olt, used a lengthy starting line
advantage (.018 to .087) and wheeled his way to his first
win of the season over Nichols with a 9.968 to 9.950 hole-shot
victory. In Super Comp, an early exit by points leader
Kevin Scholl opened the door for Ash Senft to gain some
ground. Senft, out of Codorus, Pa took his American dragster
to victory of Danny "Mr. Happy" Bisbano. Bisbano
actually held the lead at the starting line (.010 to .028)
but, took too much stripe at the end and handed back the
win to Senft with a double-breakout 8.899 to 8.886 victory.
With the win it moves Senft, to second in points behind
Scholl. Rounding out the weekend and the Mid Atlantic
Super Street group saw a familiar face in victory lane
as 2014 Champion Keith Mayers took his Porsche to victory
over Marty Ganjoin (pictured below). In a battle of the
best of the best in Division 1 Super Street Mayers, took
a slight advantage at the tree (.019 to .022) and the
hard-charging driver out of Delaware was able to push
Ganjoin out at the stripe with a 10.919 to 10.885 victory.
Mayers and Ganjoin will be locked neck and neck for the
championship battle going into the final two weekends
of the season.
The
Mid Atlantic .90 Series will take a much needed break
off and return August 29th & 30th to Cecil County
Dragway in Rising Sun, Md
