Dragtime News On Location: NHRA AutoPlus Nationals / Maple Grove Raceway, October 2013

Frank Affronti and Dave Hughes back up from their burnouts. Affronti will go ballistic red after having problems at the line. Hughes follows with a pretty big red too, but at that point he'd already won.
Lots and lots of Comp cars. I love it; Competition Eliminator is my favorite class.
Like last year, Maple Grove's top ET bracket racers were invited to race at the Auto Plus Nationals.

I know this wheelstanding Comet wagon all too well, having raced among and against Gary Simpers, Jr. for many years. Gary has the car down to a science.
Stock Eliminator, Round 3: Jerry MacNeish in the D/S Camaro had a good 10.853 on a 10.84 dial, but his .044 sealed his fate against the .012 of Tom Dauber. You can see that Dauber has a dropped nose ahead of MacNeish.

I love this mid-track shot of Mike Letellier in the white BB/SA Camaro charging on Dave Ficacci in the 1969 B/SA Camaro. Ficacci was .008 against the good .019 of Letellier.

Ken Miele in the near-lane Mustang was probably kicking himself after going .022 on the 'Tree to George Cable's .058, then going .06 under to Cable's .03 under. We've all done it, just part of racing.
Craig Marshall in the near lane dodges a bullet and gets lucky here. He had the 'Tree big-time, .012 to Jim Boburka's .046, so he's got .03 in the bank from the start. Boburka then runs .02 off the dial, which means Marshall now has .05 in the bank. Marshall runs dead-on with a 6 on the brakes. That's cutting it pretty close.

Sal Biondo in the near lane and Peter Biondo in the far. Sal straps Peter with an .015 light to Peter's .039, then goes under by less to take the win.
Mike Epprecht is the beneficiary of a Competition Single here when his opponent was a no-show.
Some more cool mid-track shots: Here's Marty Rinehart, Jr. in the '69 SS/DA Camaro on the run from Wendell Howes in the SS/AH Barracuda. Wendell had a stellar .009 but can't run the number.
J.C. Beattie Jr. in the ATI Performance Products COPO Camaro on an 8.48 / 161.02 MPH pass..
